Subject: Question about meds:
Hi all,
Again, 8 year old Newton has insulinoma, an enlarged heart,
pulmonary edema and her spleen is a bit big.
She's on pred and furosemide twice a day, and a heart med I
can't remember the name of every other day.
My question is this... The heart med should should take care
of the slight arrhytmia and stop the edema from accumulating
in her lungs right? If this happens, she should be able to
come off the diuretic right? And, if we have surgery done for
the insulinoma when she's got some strength back, we should be
able to take her off the pred right?
What I would hope is that when all is said and done, Newton
will only need heart med every other day. Although she does
like the taste of the pred, it's not going to be enjoyable for
her to tolerate having diaretic and heart meds forced down her
throat so frequently. Am I being realistic? Also our vet said
that the size of the spleen may be secondary to the other
problems. If the other problems are corrected, might the
spleen return to normal?
Please excuse all the questions, my husband took her to our
vet in another city and I couldn't go (we've moved), otherwise
I would have asked him these questions myself. Since starting
the medications Monday, my husband told me that she's eating
much more and is stronger although still wobbly.
Thanks,
Jen
