Subject: The hardest decision...

Yoda went under the knife this morning for his adrenal surgery. The
vet called me shortly after it was scheduled to begin and I knew it
couldn't be good. It seems the tumor was in Yoda's right adrenal and
was invading his vena cava; he had told me Monday that sometimes they
can remove the vena cava if the tumor has invaded enough of it.....and
another major vein will take over the job(I forget the details now..)
but he said too much blood flow was still going on for him to feel
comfortable taking that route. He also said Yoda's pancreas had a
small tumor which indicated the beginnings of insulinoma. He said he
could close Yoda up and we could go with the Lupron injections and see
how that would go, but then the issue of insulinoma would still be
present.

The bottom line is I decided Yoda had been through enough and it
wouldn't be fair to allow him to live with these conditions. So I
gave the okay to put him to sleep while on the table...so he just
never woke up from surgery.

I just felt if his quality of life was compromised then the most
humane thing I could do would be to let go.

Yoda was my favorite of all my ferrets. There was just something about
him that was special. Even Dr. XXX told me the staff loved him. at
the previous two vets we visited the staff loved him there as well.
He was a true character and a great friend. I will miss his sock
stealing..and his weasel war dances.

I know I spent alot of money just to find in the end putting him to
sleep was the thing to do. But at least now I can have comfort in
knowing I did all I could to save him.
