Subject: Re:no surgery reccomended for insulinoma?
My boy Snooper had his first insulinoma surgery about 2 years ago, when the
Pred & Proglycem weren't working any more. They removed tumors & about 50%
of the pancreas. 4 months later his blood sugar dropped again, and was put
back on both meds. We waited 1 year to do the second surgery to remove
tumors( he had not had any seizers), as they become more visible, and easier
to remove. This works well, if you ferret is able to withstand a second
surgery( keeping in mind to do pre op blood tests, but not waiting too long
that the ferret becomes too weak) So those of you that are hesitant to do a
second surgery, my opinion is to go ahead if the ferret is young enough and
healthy otherwise. If and when the time comes, I will probably do a 3rd
surgery. Note: I am not a vet, but have learned allot here and from Dr.
Bruce Williams, he's the BEST! Best of luck and well wishes to all of you
ferret lovers out there. They are so precious, and so lucky to have Mom's
and Dad's like you who take time to learn all you can to keep them healthy.
Hugs from Michele Snooper, Tigger , Jessi, and in memory of Bama, who passed
over the bridge Feb 2001, missed terribly!!
