A four month dose means that the ferret is getting a time release
formula (depot) that is slowly released over a four month period.
It's relatively the same amount as they would get monthly. In other
words, if the ferret were to receive 100mcg of the one-month Lupron,
you'd need to give 400mcg of the four-month depot to achive the same
effect over the course of 4 months. So in terms of how much Lupron
is active at any one time, it's not really a bigger dose. I think
hoping it will last seven months is stretching it a bit.

Is it safe? Yes. It's been in use with ferrets for a few years now
and the only side effect I've heard of is in one ferret that
developed reddening at the injection site. The four-month is no
different than the one-month in that regard.

At my clinic, the four-month Lupron works out to $10 more than the
one-month Lupron over the course of four months. A small amount
compared to the stress and hassle of having to go in every month.
