Subject: Re: Update on insulinoma surgery

I can't speak for the pancreatic surgery specifics, as I've never
been through that, but for major surgery in general, I wouldn't
expect him to be bounding about the day after.

While I've heard some people say their ferrets were eating normally
within a few hours of surgery and acting fairly normal, I have never
seen that in mine, even ones that were relatively young (2 yrs) at
the time. Major surgery is pretty rough and they seem perfectly
happy to remain confined in a small ICU cage for the first week.
They look and feel like hell the first few days and I can't say that
I blame them. I have also had to hand feed them for at least a couple
days following major surgery. I do think you need to make sure he
eats something. Some bruising around the incision is not that
unusual. I think it's from the clamps used to hold the incision open.
