Subject: Unusual leg problem
Hello all,
I'll *try* to keep this brief!
Cokie (8 yo) has developed a "stiffness" in her left hind leg
that we can't explain. She does have insulinoma, but her
glucose is 88, and this just doesn't seem like weakness per
se. Her leg seems to get stuck in the extended position, and
she just can't get it under her to move on. She can be
walking or running fine and then bam--especially when she
turns--her left leg is sticking out and she is struggling to
awkwardly drag herself on. It's not limp but stays extended
even if she falls over. The toes of the bad leg get bent
under as she tries to walk. Once she gets it under her again
she limps for a few steps and then she's fine until the next
time a few minutes later. It seems like a joint problem, but
it doesn't seem painful. It is very upsetting to all of us,
though--it's very sad to see her perky but unable to walk!!
My vet couldn't find anything specific, and suggested it could
be due to any one of her medical conditions (insulinoma,
adrenal, cardiomyopathy, chronic renal failure), or it could
be a neuropathy. I haven't seen her be injured at all.
Anyone seen this before or have any suggestions?? Would an
x-ray be appropriate? How dangerous would that be? I'm very
afraid of any anesthesia!!
Thanks for any help!
Celia
