Subject: coughing ferret

I recently took in my first fosters and I noticed that one of them
coughs while he is sleeping or in a relaxed state. The ferret has
been to the vet for this and nothing has shown up. His heart and
lungs are healthy, no cold/flu virus, blood work normal, x-rays
normal. Is there anything else that might have been overlooked? The
last time I caught him while he was in a coughing fit, he coughed up
some white flem like stuff. Is there any way to do an endoscopy on
ferrets? Am also wondering if he could have a "leak" in his nasal
passages that perhaps any drainage from that is collecting in his
throat. I'm not a vet just trying to think of possible causes so they
may sound really off the wall.
Otherwise, he is a healthy 4yr old neutered male. Any
help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
