Subject: Re: Unusual leg problem
We have had three ferrets with cardiomyopathy through the years
and one, the one who had the hypertrophic version of
cardiomyopathy developed peripheral edema. When that
happened her rear legs began to behave just like that. *IF*
memory serves we upped her Lasix and massaged the legs
when it occurred. Her legs were like little sausages then,
though, so the vet would have noticed that if present.
Also had one with lymphoma whose rear legs did that, and one
with a suite of problems, seemto recall that someone else did,
too, so there are obviously multiple mechanisms for the
symptom. Have massaged a number of little legs; it does help
ease it. Wish I could offer more, but try gentle massge unless
your vet says not to.
Have not had an injury in one that could this so know nothing
about that aspect. Best of luck to you.
> Her leg seems to get stuck in the extended position, and she
just can't get it under her to move on. She can be walking or
running fine and then bam--especially when she turns--her left
leg is sticking out and she is struggling to awkwardly drag
herself on. It's not limp but stays extended even if she falls over.
The toes of the bad leg get bent under as she tries to walk.
Once she gets it under her again she limps for a few steps and
then she's fine until the next time a few minutes later. It seems
like a joint problem, but it doesn't seem painful.
