Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] spleen surgery question

Enlarged spleen was my first concern with Newton, but as it
turns out, it is more likely that the spleen size is secondary
to other problems. This is also likely with your guy
considering his history. I'll bet you won't have to worry
about spleen removal if everything else is okay. As I have
recently learned, the spleen can become enlarged when the body
is producing an immune response. No immune response, no more
enlargement.

Hi, My newest little guy is a rescue ferret. He is a year
and a half year
old, and was neglected in many ways. He only got fed, and
watered once every
2 weeks, and out to play once every two weeks. When we went
to pick him up,
we immediatly took him to the vet for a check up. He got
his shots, and we
was told he was severly malnurished and dehydrated. We
brought him home, and
2 days later, he got sick. So, off to the vets we go. He has
been in the vet
now for 3 days, and still has 2 more days to go. He is on
fluid shots 2 times
a day, and vitamin shots 2 times a day, as well as some
meds. Anyways, i
called the vet today to check on him, and she said she
noticed his spleen is
slightly enlarged. She said it may be sue to stress, and his
lack of food and
such, and that it MIGHT go down, but she wants to monitor it
from time to
time. My question is, how much does a spleen surgery
normally cost? That way
i can go ahead and start saving, or bumming money off of
family LOL. Thanks!
Jennifer
