Subject: Ulcer question?

I was wondering if someone could e-mail me with the protocol for
treating an ulcer. I should know, but it has been awhile and I want
to make sure I am doing the right thing. Unfortunately we don't
have very ferret knowledgeable vets here and I get better info on
the computer. My ferret seemed to be showing some signs such as
eating his kibble funny (making a funny noise with his teeth) That
seemed to resolve without treatment until yesterday when I went to
work I accidentally locked him out of the bedroom and he had no food
or water for about 8hrs or so. When I returned I feed him and gave
treats, about an hour later he vomited and was mashing his teeth.
Does teeth mashing mean he is nausea or in pain? He ate duck soup
and just seemed tired. At 3am he vomited again. I gave him 1/8
tablet of carafate(mixed with water) and this morning.25ml of amoxi.
He is eating, but less than normal. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated. I am assuming it is an ulcer. I hope I am
correct. He was treated about two years ago this way. Also how
many times do I give the carafate? Is the dosage correct? How do
you space the amoxi and carafate? Is the amoxi 2x per day for 10
days. The one decent vet I do have is out of town. I always keep
these two drugs on hand for emergencies.
Thanks,
Kelly
