Subject: high protein treats and pred amts for insulinoma

One of our ferrets, Sasha, who I've mentioned here before, has
insulinoma. We are going to go ahead with surgery as soon as we can
get it scheduled, but in the interim we are giving her pred and
watching her food consumption to make sure she's eating enough. She
does have fairly frequent meals, but they're all relatively small.
(The food we give all 3 is Eukenuba chicken and rice - we used ferret-
specific food a few years back, but have been using this for about 4
years - the highest quality/protein food we could find). Two
questions:

1) Any recommendations for high-protein supplement/treats I can
try? We've tried turkey gerbers, and she doesn't like it. I'm going
to make insulinoma-specific soup this weekend, but the only soup I
have frozen right now contains Ensure - I'm hesitant to give it b/c
I'm afraid it has too much sugar. Any other suggestions would be
appreciated. I'm about to start syringe feeding her the gerbers, but
would like to avoid it.

2) I'm bad with remembering dosage amounts, but right now she's
getting a 1/4 tab of what I believe is a 5mg tab of Pred once per
day. Is this a good amount? She's still having episodes, so I'm
wondering if we should be giving her more... I don't know what's
standard.

Thanks.
