Subject: Follow-up on Shirley's renal failure

This is a follow-up from my post of a special request of last week. Since then,
I have received some responses for the ferret cadaver, and am following up on
these. Shirley's condition has basically remained the same, with only slight
improvements in her blood levels. She has been home for over a week and to
watch her you would not know that she is as sick as she really is. She is 5
1/2yrs old, but seems to have the energy of a 2 year old. The problem is that
the fluid therapy treatments are maintaining her levels of creatinine, BUN and
phosphorous at above normal, and in this condition, she will slowly deteriorate.
It seems that the transplant may become a necessity sooner that we had hoped.

Has anyone had any experience with kidney transplants in ferrets? If anyone
has, I would really appreciate any input that you have.

I'll keep you posted on her progress (I hope it will be positive).
