Subject: rapid onset of adrenal symptoms?

I'm posting this for a friend. He has an approximatley 5 year old neutered
male ferret, adopted from me 3 years ago. Otto is a big, strong, healthy,
handsome boy.

On Friday, my friend noticed some red marks on Otto's back. As he was
recently trying to integrate two playgroups, he thought it was just bite or
scratch marks. By Monday, the marks went all the way from the base of the
tail up his back stopping just short of the shoulders. And there was rapid
fur loss along the back too.

Otto went to a fairly experienced vet yesterday, and the vet said it looked
like it could be adrenal, but was surprised by the sudden onset. The vet
suggested just keeping an eye on it for a week or so, and see what happens.

I also just saw Otto, and it sure looks like adrenal to me too. Otto ran
around my house, rubbing his privates against various objects--this is
normal behavior for him. But I also noticed he was leaving small amounts of
urine behind, not normal.

Has anyone seen such a rapid onset of adrenal symptoms before? Could it be
something else?
