Subject: dog-vaccines!

Hi you guys, hope you’re all doing great, fuzzies and humans (and sick
ones recovering well).
This time I have a question maybe mostly to the Drs. here (but anyone
who isn’t a vet and know something please write too!), if you could
please answer me here or to my mail I’ll be so thankful! The question
is:

-->How DANGEROUS are these dog-vaccines that contain not only rabies
and distemper but also leptospirosis, hepatitis and so on???! (the
normal dog-shot cocktail with 5 different things mixed up)
-->Do they give bad reactions that can kill the fuzzies as well?!!

I know that only two shots are really needed yearly, and how the ones
recommended and used by everyone here are the IMRAB-3 (for rabies) and
the FERVAC-D (for Distemper), and how they shouldn’t be given at the
same time. The problem is that I live in Germany and here not only
most vets have very little knowledge about ferrets, but these two
vaccines can’t be found anywhere!
So all that the ferrets here keep receiving every year is this dog-
shots cocktail!
Including the 3 fuzzies that own me, well, Logan and Leeloo (who
received their first shots before I adopted them—Salma, the new baby,
hasn’t gotten her first shots yet).

I am worried about giving them this dog-shots again, I have read and
asked around (and posted around too) but all I hear is that IMRAB-3 and
FERVAC-D is all I should ever give, no explanation why… but I would
like to know HOW bad this dog 5er shots are exactly, WHY it so bad?
(it must be bad otherwise it wouldn’t be switched to just these two
particular shots!)
I want to know also so I can tell the shelter people and ferret
community here, so maybe they’d listen to me and we can all import the
good stuff together and have yearly major-vaccination days!

Another thing: I am willing to import IMRAB-3 and FERVAC-D for Logan
Leeloo & Salma (God help me that their vet will know how to deal with a
possible reaction!—I hear they just send the ferret immediately home
after the dog shots here), but one vet here told me it could be
complicated importing them from the US not only because of what they
are (and I’m not a vet ordering it or anything) but because they would
have to be kept cool…
-->Does anyone know if it IS possible to import IMRAB-3 and FERVAC-D
into Germany and how would I go about doing it?

Salma should be getting her first shots soon and I only want always the
very best and safest for them 3 cuties! Salma hasn’t gone out to the
park or forest like Logan and Leeloo have (since they have their shots
we go for walks—something they love!), but I know how distemper can be
carried in with me (even though I always take off my shoes and change
clothes as I walk in—but most of my visitors don’t!), and the thought
of her catching something is just too horrible!

Thank you so much for any help or info!!! (sorry it's so long)

Hugs and dooks to everyone!

Chris, Logan, Leeloo & Salma.
