Subject: Diazoxide and Urinary Tract Infection
Hello all,
I very recently started (5 days ago)using Diazoxide for my 8+ year old
ferret Benji. Yesterday we started noticing blood in his urine, by last
night it was completely pink. He had a urinalysis and the vet knows he has
a bacterial infection but has sent the urine to the lab for a culture and
sensitivity test to determine the exact bacteria and what antibiotics will
be most effective. Has anyone else had any urinary tract problems possibly
associated with diazoxide? I'm not really expecting that to be the case
especially when there is an underlying infection, but I don't want to use it
if it may predispose him to infections (any more than the Prednisone he gets
as well anyway!).
