Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] squinting

Hello my fuzzie lover friend!

Yes, duck soup is basically getting the chicken flavor baby food (in
the lil blue jar gerbers seems to work best, look for the blue
label) some ferretone, a little bit of water and you mix it
toghether with a little say 1/2 cup of there normal food, blend it
up in the blender and feed it to them with a spoon. They absolutely
love this. The stool doesn't have to be a bright green, but the
green is a definate indication that it could be ECE. If they wont
take it off the spoon use a small dropper and use the side of the
mouth to get it in if they are being difficult. With the
electrolytes, you can add that also to the duck soup, it is
pedeolyte that is used for children you can get it anywhere. I do
URGE you to take your fuzzie to the Vet. Or at least take a stool
sample so that the vet can test for bacteria. You can also instead
of putting it into the duck soup add it to their water so they are
getting the electrolytes. It is imperitive that they do not get
dehydrated. I hope this helps, if you have any questions at all
please feel free to email me or call me at 203-888-4977. My
prayers are with you. Michele

Here is a duck soup recipie:

INGREDIENTS
1 can Science Diet a/d (from your vet)
1 jar Gerber Chicken or Turkey Baby Food
3/4 to 1 baby food jar of Pedialyte/water to desired
consistencyPREPARATION
Mix a/d and baby food till no lumps. Stir in Pedialyte/water till
smooth. Serve slightly warm either in a bowl or syringe. If you warm

in the microwave (approx 8-10 seconds), stir with your finger to
make
sure there are no hot spots. A syringe full of the soup will warm
quickly in a glass of hot water. Test on your arm as you would for a

baby bottle.OPTIONS
FerretZyme Plus - a great additive that helps break down food to
make it easier to digest. Excellent for stomach or intestinal
problems and good at all times on dry kibble. Available from Pets
Friends, Ft.
Lauderdale, FL (800) 868-1009 or "For Ferrets Only," 1-305-378-8877.

Nupro - some very good natural additives, available from The Ferret
Store. Also very good on dry kibble.
Ensure Plus, Deliver, etc. - If your ferret refuses to eat the basic

soup mixture, you can add about ½ to 1 ounce of either of these.
Usually available in your pharmacy or supermarket. As your ferret
will
eat the soup better, discontinue this asap. Sugar has a tendency to
encourage bacteria. Try to avoid anything with sugar.

Heavy Cream - A few tablespoons of whipping cream will add quite a
bit of additiona fat.

There are other additives, however, this basic recipe has worked
wonders for many ferrets. It provides good quality protein and is
easily
digestible. Always check with your vet for any medical questions

Hello !! Please, take them to the vet, it may be ECE, I just
had 2 fuzzies pass on last week with this disease and from what
you are saying it sounds like it could be ECE. The stool will
look almost bright green in color, and the loose stool is a
definate sign even if it isn't ECE. They may get dehydrated.
Feed them duck soup, get some electrolytes into their water and
watch them carefully. Best wishes, Michele
