Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] Re: Compounding Metranidazole

Hi Katharine, I kid you not, they come running. All 5 of them, 2
on my lap one in my hair from climbing my back others in front of me
with the weasel look !!! Give it a try, it can't hurt. I know
flagyl is difficult, is it possible that you can add some ferretone
just a drop to the front of the dropper (not inside) just so they
taste that first then give them the med? That worked for me with
one of mine.

Oh I can see Cedes doing that ! Ahhh ... poor lil fuzzie I know.
But with lots of love and a little inginuity you'll do it. I know
it ! Also you might want to have a Yoggie treat right by you so
they can have that right after the med. Take the taste out of the
mouth.

Patty had a good idea but you are right they figit and squirm like
crazy .... try the ferretone or a treat to intice him and my prayers
are with you 100%.

Please keep me updated okay ? Much love, Michele

Instead
of giving it to them on the side of the mouth, take the dropper
and
let your babies lick what is on the plastic part just to get the
taste, then rub it on there front teeth ( I have 5 and had to
practice this, now they chase me for the med! >

Are you honestly telling me that your ferrets beg for flagyl?????
I
sure haven't found mine to beg for any meds! Some are more
tolerant
than others but they have NEVER begged! I have yet to find the
perfect compounding to suit them, I guess.

I will try your technique tonight. This a.m. Cedes did OK with it

but Chester hated it! He kept burying his little head in my lap,
just like he does when I try to clean his ears, very endearing but

frustrating. He also used his paws to try to get the stuff out of

his mouth, saying "ack, ack, ack" the whole time. I ended up
accidentally dunking his front paw into his Gerber's trying to
make
him stop. We had quite a little mess when all was over. I'm just

glad this is only twice a day for a week.

Patty suggested in a private email that I put the syringe in the
side
and point it toward the front. I laughingly asked if she was
assuming that they sat patiently while I got everything into
position.
