Subject: compounding meds

I just wanted to mention that my Cokie took maybe a week of
daily dosing before she started licking her compounded
Florinef willingly from the syringe. I have a feeling that
this was just because it was a new taste, and it took her
awhile to acquire it. (By the way the flavor is pina colada,
now made by the pharmacist from mix found at the grocery
store). Once she liked it, though, she loved it! She would
take the empty syringe and run off with it! She still balks
at taking it if the formula changes at all, though, but then
she gets used to it again. She can tell the slightest
difference. I know it's frustrating--I wouldn't switch
flavors now even though I'm pretty sure she would eventually
like it. Too much stress on both of you!!

Also--I think it's better (more ferret acceptable) if the
medication is thicker rather than watery.

I don't think 3 days is too long for compounding medication.
I always call my refills in 3 days in advance--pharmacists can
be *very* busy, and I think compounding is somewhat time
consuming.

This might not be that helpful for folks giving short term
meds, but still...
