Subject: topical meds (compounded meds pt.2)

I just remembered an instance of Failure of my Theory of
"acquiring tastes" for compounded meds.... (Flagyl may well
fall into this category). Cokie gets diltiazem for her
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and we at first tried compounding
it the same flavor as her florinef. But by the time the
flavoring and other agents were mixed in, the dose was
huge--like 0.8 ml. She would gag and gag and gag and cry out
and then paw at her mouth. It was way too horrible. So now
she gets that medication compounded in a formula that is
absorbed through her skin. I don't know if this would be
possible or practical for other meds, but it's a lifesaver in
this case!

Has anyone else used this type of topical compounding for
medications that are usually given orally? Just curious...
