Subject: Need advice re diuretics, diarrhea

8 year old Newton is quite thin so I have been feeding her
5-10 ccs of warm chicken gravy/day hoping to get some weight
on her. I noticed today she has loose stools. I would like to
hear from the professionals whether it is a good idea to
supplement her with gravy.

I have not been able to get ahold of my veterinarian since
Newton's ultrasound Wednesday. I've left messages but he
hasn't called me yet, and now his office is closed until
monday. Newton is on furosemide and fortekor for a suspected
dialated heart and pulmonary effusion (her rads showed some
opaqueness in the lungs), and pred for suspected insulinoma
(her BG was low). Her ultrasound Wednesday found nothing wrong
with her pancreas or heart. Her spleen was full of holes and
there were lots of enlarged lymph nodes. There were masses in
her liver. I was told that is was most likely lymphsarcoma and
that the opaqueness in her lungs looked more like more
enlarged lymph nodes.

If this is the case, is it dangerous to have her on the
diuretic? She's drinking a lot, and now with the soft poop I
am worried about her dehydrating. The doctor who did her
ultrasound didn't advise me regarding her medications because
I was to relay the information to my regular vet, and he's
awfully hard to get in touch with. If anyone can give me some
advice I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,
Jen
