Thanks to all the helpful advice from members. Maybe our experience
with flagyl can help...
Have you tried mixing your Flagyl compound with Ferretvites or
some other treat your guys LIVE for? When we were giving Heidi
flagyl, we had to compound each dose ourselves, mixing flagyl with a
healthy glob of ferretvites (about a 1-2 inch strip on a spoon- mix
well). Your compounded stuff might be hidden this way.
Heidi gobbled this up, except once when we didn't grind the tablet up
fine enough. After she tasted the flagyl in our homemade compound,
she was incredibly suspicious of ferretvites for quite a while, so we
had to try other things. We ended up havingto use the hold em, wait
for a yawn and squirt technique for her last few doses(crude, but
effective.She let us know in no uncertain terms that she did not
appreciate this barbaric treatment at all but she did forgive us
rather quickly when we produced untreated marshmallow bits as an
apology)
It's worth a try.
A note: if they taste the flagyl even once, they'll catch on to
you,(it sounds like they have already) so I'd keep mixing your
compounded stuff into different yummies, Maybe a different yummy each
time?
If nothing else works, then you'll just have to use the old stand-by,
hold by the scruff, wait for a yawn and squirt, followed but a treat
and hugs. They'll forgive you eventually. They're too cool not to.
