Subject: Funky stools persistent

You can buy acidophilus capsules, open a little to add
to the baby food. I remember reading that the ferrets
have a very short colon, and they don't need the same
bacteria that we have to digest food- and have that
fast transit time, so food isn't sitting around long time,
Anyone remember this, maybe when we were talking
about nutrition?

I know that it is normal for ferrets to have a lot of yeast
in their stools, and E-coli is common, but doesn't mean
infection- not sure what role those play?

Spleens can be followed periodically, you can actually
feel them, and a vet can show you how to monitor it,
your vet is right, a slightly enlarged spleen is pretty common
in older ferrets.

Not sure what you are asking about the urine, the odor may
be different because of the different diets of the two
ferrets?
The ability to concentrate the urine is a good thing, but it
shouldn't
always be real concentrated, if it is, make sure the ferret is
drinking enough water.

Hi,

She and the vet suggested acidolphilus found in yogart to
help introduce some good bacteria. Bandit does not like
yogart so that's not gonna help.. Any ideas, My boy is so
fat in the belly and it feels hard but his recent
ultra-sound showed only a slightly enlarged spleen, which
the vet says is common. Is there another way of making sure
his spleen isn't to large??

Lastly Bandit will only eat Science Diet Maintenance Formula
for Cats and there is not enough protein or fat in it so I
supplement his feedings with babyfood and science diet a/d
and nupro and ferretone 3x a day. Is he getting enough
protein??

Thanks so much,

Christina
