Subject: Bad E coli infection-please advise!!
Hello all,
It turns out that Benji's urinary infection is due to E coli. I
haven't found any specific references to treatment in either of the books I
have (the Fox book or the Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents book)or in the
archives here. The susceptibility results won't come back until at least
tomorrow but we had to start some treatment today because Benji is doing so
poorly (we had been giving him Amoxicillin but that did not help). We have
started him on IM injections of Gentamicin and I'm also giving him fluids.
I am very worried due to his insulinoma--he's hardly eating anything at all
today. I know he's in pain and he's just getting weaker. Does anyone have
any experience with ferrets having E coli?
Please pray for the little guy, he's old and very dear to me.
