Subject: yogurt and ferrets!

For what it is worth, I would like to mention a
problem that I had with a ferret that had been given
TRIBRISSEN for a respitory problem! After about 5 days
the 'soft runs' started and in two more days the
liquid diarrhea was shooting out everywhere!
Of course the doctor wanted to put the ferret on
FLAGYL to correct the diarrhea, however I reasoned
that the antibiotic had caused the problem to begin
with, why would I want to use another antibiotic!
Obviously the 'good' bacteria had been destroyed along
with the 'bad' causing an imbalance to occur! I
already had the ferret on Ferretzyme, so I figured
YOGURT would be the next best thing, but was not sure
that the milk product would cause the same effect!
My little paralysed ferret was covered in diarrhea
each time she went and I washed 2 loads of wash for
her each day, so I decided to give it a try!
After 2 days and a teaspoon of plain YOGURT added to a
little ENSURE and chicken, 3 times a day, the ferret
was back to normal and we were both VERY HAPPY!
Dr. WILLARD had mentioned in his paper that yogurt was
not necessary in a 'healthy' ferret, however it
certainly was the solution to cure a sick one!---Angela
