Subject: Bad E coli infection-please advise!!

I wouldn't do the Gentamycin injections, apparently
Ferrets are very sensitive to it, and can go into
renal failure- it is toxic to the kidneys.

E.coli is a common cause of urinary tract infections
in humans, and usually sensitive to amoxicillin-
however, like humans I am sure the resistance is
pretty common, and I know alternatives
are cephalosporins, Bactrim, and probably Baytril (?)
I would hold off the Gentamycin, and use something
else until sensitivity comes back,

Patty
