the normal temperature is "reported to be 100-104 degrees, with the
average being 101.9. However, in clinical practice, the normal
temperature is usually not above 103 unless the ferret is excited or
the ambient temperature is high."

My vet uses one on those digital thermometers, rectally, and inserted
just slightly beyond the tip. It's really hard to get a ferret to
hold it under its tongue for any length of time, so rectal is the way
to go. They don't like that much either. :-)
