According to Dr. Purcell, a ferrets rectal temp should be 100 to 103
degrees.

I use a fast acting digital thermometer and insert it about 3/4 to 1
inch into the rectum. If you hold the thermometer and the tail together
there is less likelyhood that the ferret will wiggle it out.

The struggle to take the temp is enough to elevate the temp slightly, or
so it seems to me.
