You probably heard it something like "Ferrets are not fishers like mink, and therefore fish is not a natural food for ferrets" or some such.

While not a "natural" ferret food, fish does contain some good proteins and omega-stuff (I am NOT a nutritionist, BTW) that are good.

Far better high fish content than high corn content as far as kibble goes. Marshall's ferret food is the most notable example of this. As far raw fish in raw diets, it's probably got the same benefits, with a little less of the goodies cooked out.

A downside to high fish content diet is an unpleasant odor of the poop it produces.

Notable also is the fact that cod liver oil is the #2 ingredient of Ferretone.
