While it doesn't go into using UV or IR, it does talk about using red
lights.
I remember going to Brookfield Zoo outside of chicago many years
ago. In one of the rooms, they had a hall for nocturnal animals that
was dark save for a red light in each of the animals' enclosure.
This was so that the animals were active in the daytime, when zoo
visitors were there. I assume that when the zoo closed at night,
full lighting was turned on in that room so the animals would get
their normal day/night cycle.
So perhaps there's something to the red light theory that the author
presents in the article.
