Prolapsed rectums typically tend to happen due to bouts of the
runs. If he is still having the runs you need to -- pardon the pun --
get to the bottom of that.

Yes, the Prep H will help, as can some cortisone preparations
but you need to assess how bad the prolapse is. If it is a bad
one (deep red or purple tissue, or quite a lot of tissue out then a
vet visit is in order right away. They can do a purse-string, which
is a simple placement of two stitches to tighten the rectum. It is
often possible avoid surgery. In 19 years we've never had to
have one get surgery for it, but have had to have one get a
purse-string now and then. From the way they act afterward
those stitches hurt less than the prolapse.
