Subject: Gastroenteritis

Hi everyone! I am hoping some one can help me or at least provide some
reassurance. Back in August Busy Bob began having bouts of diarrhea. It
progressed so that his diarrhead was just steady and after several
trips to the vet he was diagnosed with gastroenteritis (but we didn't
do the biopsy). Busy was put on .2cc clavamox and .16cc predinisone, 2X
per day. Almost immediately we saw an improvement and he gained weight
and everything. However, about a week ago - his stools started to lose
shape and some were quite watery. So, back to the vet we went. This
time I brought with the Dr. Burgess' article (thank you to whomever
posted that) and Busy is back on the clavamox (in case there is an
underlying infection), still on the prednisone, and .9cc imuran every
72 hours.

I have noticed that while his stools are already getting firmer, he
seems to have developed a decreased appetite or perhaps an upset
stomach (he vomited once on Sunday morning). Some reading on this site
leads me to believe that the Imuran could be the culprit. Any ideas on
what I should do to keep him eating. Will the upset tummy go away after
his system gets more used to Imuran or should I call the vet and see
about a decreased dosage. Also, is there anything I can do in the
meantime to stimulate his appetite. He is losing weight and while he
isn't in the danger zone yet, he could stand to gain a pound or two. I
don't think I can give him Nutrical if he has gastroenteritis, so any
other thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Hillary
