Subject: Prednisone and Prednisolone -- same thing? & General
insulinoma question

My 7 year old girl Murphy was diagnosed today with insulinoma. She
was prescribed diazoxide and, originally, prednisone. (Nope, no
surgery.) Several pharmacies I called were unable to get prednisone
(they didn't even know what it WAS). Finally the vet called a
pharmacy and, upon hearing that they had prednisolone, said that that
would be fine.

I just wanted to see if anyone here could confirm that the switch is
okay? (Not knocking Murphy's doctor; she's great, and I don't have
the space here to go into how she went out of her way to confirm the
diagnosis.)

Also, and this may be too general a question -- would anyone have any
advice regarding what I'm in for as far as caring for Murphy? It's
sort of a general "what are your insulinoma experiences" question,
and maybe every ferret is different, and that question isn't easily
answered... It's just that this is new to me and I'm looking for as
much info as possible. (Right now it's just meds twice a day and
making sure she's eating, but from what little I've learned so far,
it looks like it'll get harder as time goes on, and I guess I'm
thinking that the more I educate myself now the less likely I'll be
to screw up somewhere down the line.)

Thanks very much.
