Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] Bandit

Christina, I think I may have replied to you before regarding
Bandit and my expeirences with my ferret Oliver. Oliver also
wipes his chin on the carpet, my foot, or whatever is around
at the time to clean himself (Oliver gets hand feed 4-5 times
daily as he will not eat on his own). If Bandit is pawing at
his mouth he could be nausea, have you talked to your vet
about putting him on something. Oliver gets zantac (?) 2x
daily for his nausea. Also wanted to mention Oliver is a heavy
(fat) boy and i think that is partly due to all of the meds
hes on, 6 in total. Good luck with Bandit, Deidre and my 9
little fuzzies.

Hi Guys,

I'm in need of some help with my baby Bandit...
Just a little back drop for those who are unfamiliar
Bandit is a 5yr old male who's had adrenal surgery year 1/2
ago- the left surgically removed and right frozen with
cryo-surgery.
TP showed slightly elevated hormone levels indicating
adrenal disease back-ultra-sound also reveals slightly
enlarged right adrenal gland.
Bandit has been given his first shot of 4month Lupron Depot
and is on .50 pred twice a day because his blood sugar on
average is about (65).

I am not willing to put Bandit through another surgery, in
my heart of hearts I don't think he can with stand it-
Bandit's quality of life is not what it use to be, he sleeps
all the time, basically he wakes to go to the bathroom or
feedings (he will only eat kibble on occassion) and he relys
on the feedings of (babyfood and science diet a/d).

When he wakes he seems lost and looks for places to hide and
sleep (part of this is because he recently or over time has
gone blind) so that's why at times he seems lost. He's a
pretty fat boy and has no qualms with eating probably due to
the pred though. The only time I see excitement in him is
when the front door opens and he tries to run out. When I
do let him out he's jumping up and down and clucking like
crazy!!! But in the house no energy, doesn't even really
enjoy being held???

I noticed after Bandit eats (the babyfood and science a/d
soup) he always wipes his mouth on my foot or rubs his chin
on newspapers. I always thought this was his way of
cleaning himself up but now I'm questioning this... because
lately I see him digging in the newspaper after he eats like
he's digging and then he wipes his mouth with his paws. I'm
not sure what's going on here?? could the pred be making him
nauseaus?? but his appetite is good and it seems to happen
before or after he's eaten??

One other concern I had is his breathing- I noticed
sometimes while he sleeps it sounds a bit like he's wheezing
and he also makes this noise when he's awake and I pick him
up- almost as if he's uncomfortable???

Not to long ago I had an ultra-sound of the heart and the
doctor said everything looked normal.

I really need some help in how to best care for him and if
I'm missing something here.

Please Help (any ideas or comments welcome)
I love him so much I want him to enjoy his little life

Christina & Bandit and little Fiefal
