Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Gastroenteritis and ferrets
Hi Hillary:
I also have a ferret that was diagnosed with gastroenteritis. Precious has had the problem for about 11/2 yrs. She is doing very well. I noticed
the problem when she was vomiting and she had runny stools. Its almost like she had an intestenal virus. She wouldn't eat at all. I brought her to
my vet and he gave her a cortizone shot. It seemed like every month this was the problem. I would bring her in and he would give her another shot.
She would be alright for a while and then she would start again. I acutally gave her shots.
Then my vet and I did some research. We found that turkey was absolutely the most easily digested protein. I changed her food to dry proplan turkey
cat food. Then the doctor tried to prescribe cortizone but she still had symptoms. She is now on Hydrocortizone drops two times a day. One drop
two times a day. I also give her Gerber Stage two turkey baby food twice a day. As I say she is a lot better. Try her on the turkey. Within a few
weeks of this change she got better. Please keep me informed
Sincerely
Ivy
