Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Prolapsed Rectum

Our little Mochee has a prolapsed rectum as well. When it
first happened it looked like a grape sticking out of her
butt. the vet did a purse string suture and left it in for a
week. When she took it out Mochee finally got to go to the
bathroom again. Whew! then once in while it looks like it
coming out again. and we have to put her on antibiotics and
put poly sporin on her bum. The vet says it is not going to go
away. She has had this now for 2 years. But she is 7 years
old. Maybe a younger ferret will heal better.

I have a 6 month old male ferret that has developed a
prolapsed rectum. He recently went to a ferret show with a
friend, and I have my suspicions as to how the rectum became
prolapsed. At any rate, that isn't important now as the
damage has been done. Can anyone suggest what to do with
this problem? I would like to avoid surgery if at all
possible. He has been put on antibotics and it was suggested
to use preparation H on him bum.
