Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Prolapsed Rectum

Hi Chris-

re: the prolapsed rectum:
at Ferret Wise we had this occur in two youngsters approx 5 mo old
kits last year- it ended up being a case of giardia which caused the
prolapse. ( loose stools) They both responded very well to the
metronidiazole treatements. Have the fecals been checked for
giardia yet?

Just a suggestion-

I have a 6 month old male ferret that has developed a prolapsed
rectum. He recently went to a ferret show with a friend, and I
have my suspicions as to how the rectum became prolapsed. At any
rate, that isn't important now as the damage has been done. Can
anyone suggest what to do with this problem? I would like to avoid
surgery if at all possible. He has been put on antibotics and it
was suggested to use preparation H on him bum.
