Subject: Distemper vaccines in England
I have two ferrets and work at a vets in England. I get
questioned many times by vets and clients ( i am a nurse) as
to what vaccine to use for distemper. The answer is "I don't
know"! I phoned a rep at Merial about the American vaccine +
he said that we can't get it over here and that the standard
DHPPi should be fine as it is made from ferret cells!!!! At
this point I thought that there is not much point asking him
anymore! That still leaves me with the problem that all the
vaccines listed in our Compendium are made from ferret cells.
Does anyone know of any English vaccine that is safe to use as
I have a list of people ( including myself) who would like to
vaccinate their ferrets.
