After I had to put my dog down my oldest (at the time my only)
ferret went through the same thing. It took a couple of weeks
before he showed any signs of depression. I took him to the vet and
she confirmed that he was going through depression and that he
needed a companion. Once I got him a friend (my second ferret) He
came around rather quikly. I'm not sure if you only have one ferret
but if you do you may consider it. As you probably already know
they are social animals and enjoy the company of others. Mine won't
even go to sleep at night till they are all curled up. Well good
