Subject: Re: pros and cons of laxative (vaseline)?

Ah, this one I can answer in a way that might be useful, though I
must say, "They might or they might not.". We have had a ferret
with what was thought at first to be a furball removed during
surgery, but which -- on examinations -- appeared more likely to
be mostly synthetic fibers, iwth the closeest matches in our
household being to that fake "sheep's fleece" stuff and to one
type of fake fur we had lining some bedding. On further testing
(by checking what got left in the washer and what got left in the
drier we found that the materials that shedded the worst in those
appliances were the same ones that best matched the fibers
from his stomach, so that is a test we have used since to know
what is possibly a problem material and what isn't. The
polar-fleeces we have here, BTW, have virtually no shedding.
Why him? We don't know. Apparently, it's something behavioral
(which might also explain carpet fibers for your little one) so I
have sewn sheet fabric over such materials to make the
shedding parts non-assessible. (BTW, this is not the ferret with
IBD who is our only ohter one to have furball problems, with his
being of actual fur.)
