I have a four year old female with insulinoma who is currently
on .5ml pred 2x/day and I had a terrible time getting her to take her
meds. There is a pharmacy near me (western suburb of Chicago) which
will compound and custom flavor medications and caters specifically
to pets and children. I have them flavor Ripley's meds with "triple-
fish" flavor(no sugar), and she LOVES it. Thinks it's a treat.
Actually I have to fight off my cat and the other ferrets when I give
it to her. It is a little more expensive than drugs at the vet (about
$20 a month at this dose), but IMO, it beats crushing things up and
mixng concoctions or fighting to get her to take it. You also get a
very accurate dosage this way. There may be a pharmacy near you that
will do the same thing (your vet can work with them on the dosage),
or this pharmacy will (and regularly does) ship medications overnight
with one of the big carriers. The pharmacy I use is Martin Avenue
Pharmacy and their phone # is (630) 355-6400. Your vet should be able
to work with them over the phone.
