Subject: new vaccine
Hi everyone -
Did 34 CDV vaccinations yesterday; 5 Fervac-D and 29 PureVax
4 out of the 5 Fervac vaccinations were the final kit booster and 1 was a
2nd vaccination booster, 3 weeks after the 1st for an adult that had an
unknown vaccination history. No reactions.
Gave the 29 PureVax as I had decided to switch over to the new product. 2
were the final kit booster and 1 adult, same as above. The rest were
normal yearly boosters meaning none had received this product previously.
I had 3 mild reactions, all 45 minutes to an hour following
vaccination. This is different from the 10 - 20 minutes post vaccination
reactions that I had been seeing with the Fervac & the Imrab. The first
reaction was one of the kits. She was lethargic and was just alternately
slithering along the floor and resting. She was given .1 epi and within 20
- 30 minutes was pretty much back to normal. The second one is an intact
jill, 3.5 years old. She was also lethargic, a little flat and did some
minor vomiting. She was also administered .1 epi and was fine in 20 - 30
minutes. The third one is an intact hob, 3.5 years old. He had quite a
bit of vomiting and some diarrhea that contained fluids, some mucous and
had a pinkish color to it. He was administered .1 epi but after 20+
minutes, he was still vomiting and passing diarrhea so .1 dexamethasone was
then administered. After 25 - 30 minutes, he had improved, the vomiting
and diarrhea had stopped and he was resting comfortably.
I didn't feel that any of these 3 reactions were life threatening and I
have seen a good number of reactions over the years that were far more
alarming than these. These guys didn't show any signs of respiratory
distress or even the bottle brush tail which previously was the first
indication of a reaction. These reactions looked more like when we get a
shot and it just makes us feel rather ill for a short time.
I chose to have these guys treated with as little pharmaceuticals as I
thought we could get away with and work up to subsequent doses or higher
doses if the situation indicated it.
I do not pretreat prior to vaccinating.
Just wanted to give a heads up.
