Subject: itchy adrenal ferret and Lupron

Hi all,

I am posting for a friend who does not have internet access because
her computer is down.

She has a 5 yr old ferret with a right Adrenal problem which is
pretty severe. At this point, rather than do surgery, she has been
opting to put him on Lupron. I have two questions she would like
answered.

He is on 600 ml (I think it is ml) of Lupron. At this point his vet
said he would not want to go higher than 600 because he does not have
experience giving ferrets higher doses than this. Has anyone else
had their ferrets higher? Any side effects with going higher that
are known?

This ferret is also quiet itchy because of his Adrenal problems. I
gave my friend a leave in conditioner that my vet had provided to me
when I had my first problem with itchy Adrenal ferret. I think it is
called Soootheze (can't remember) Anyway it works great but can only
be applied every 3 days. My friend is wondering if there are any
meds that can be given to her ferret to help with the itch. He
itches to the point of crying sometimes. She does not want to use
any other topical creams or lotions because of his licking. He
leaves the conditioner alone but she is afraid he would lick at
anything else.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Yours truly,
Cindy Smith
