Subject: Advice needed on post op patient

Hi,
A few days ago I posted about a ferret that mostly was vomiting at
night. After x-rays showed no signs of blockage, the vet put her on
flagyl and amoxi. Instead of getting better she got worse. Yesterday,
was lethargic and would not eat. Today she had exploratory surgery.
No foreign bodies were found, everything looked fairly normal, except
she had quite a bit of fluid and food material in her stomach. The
vet thought there might be some swelling at the junction between
stomach and intestine that is keeping the fluid from moving through.
He said it would be in a spot that wouldn't be easy to remove if it
is a tumor, he did take a biopsy in that region.

My question is: whether to just have him "let her go", because if she
is not moving food through, there is not much point in bringing her
home. Does anyone have any ideas of what to do with her until the
biopsy results come back? I can give sub-q fluids, but don't know if
that is enough to keep her going until Monday if food still won't
move through.

She is a 7.5 yr old, lab results weren't too bad. The following were
abnormal. creatine 1.3 (bun normal), TP high 7.8, Globulin high 4.0
AST 115 WBC 3.6 HCT 36 Also asked them to run an Amylase,
which was 740 which seems high, although the lab had no normals for
ferrets. Is she a candidate for Imuran? Digestive enzymes? Any help
would be appreciated.

Thanks
Julie
