Subject: loose stools

Help!!

Our Winston has had loose stools for a while now....and oh so
smelly!! Can't seem to find anything that helps. When this first
started, it was loose, but not so smelly.

When we first took him to our vet, we had to force feed him and he
had gotten down to about 1 lb. 8 oz. He was on put on baytril
(injection), prednisone, pepcid AC and carafate and baby food which
we had to force feed him. Originally the vet thought it might be
Insulinoma but he started getting better and decided to just see
where this was going.

Eventually we took him off the prednisone and carafate and pepcid
AC...and then off Baytril . Well, as long as he takes Baytril (now
it's the oral type), things seem to go okay, but when we take away
the Baytril, the smelly poop comes back. It's stong enough to smell
up the whole house!! We try to ease him off the Baytril, but no
success, either. Right now he's only taking a 1/4 tablet every 4th
day.

His diet consists of chicken baby food mixed with ensure and cream
(because that's the only way I could get him to eat it), and now
that's all he wants to eat. When he gets hungry, he comes looking
for me. Occasionally...and I mean occasionally, he will eat a
little Iams Kitten, and does like to eat Purina Pro-Plan...or any
other cat food...which I don't allow him to eat very often. The
baby food itself has a pretty bad smell, but don't believe that's
the total cause of the odor.

He seems pretty healthy and fairly active (he's 4 1/2 years old),
and doesn't act much different than before...although somewhat not
as crazy. He's probably somewhere around 2 3/4 lbs. now.

I started giving him yogart...and now lactobacillus acidophilus
instead of yogart, but don't know how much he should have, and in
the few days he's been on it, don't know that it's made any
difference. I give him 2 ml.??

What do you think the problem is? Any now what?

Thanks,

Connie
