Subject: help! Problems after adrenal surgery

To any of you who might have experienced this, could you drop me a
line? My vet called late yesterday afternoon and said my ferret that
had adrenal surgery the day before, wasn't doing well. He was
scratching the corner of the cage and acting strange. His eyes were
sort of glazed over. So he kept him another night. SubQ fluids and
forced feedings that night.

Today I called him, (big snow storm and making arrangements to get
the ferret)and the ferret seems to have dementia and is blind. The
vet said the surgery went very well, the anesethia went very smoothly
and he was pleased afterwards. Now this has popped up and he is
stumped. He is keeping him another night, but I don't know what good
that will do. More antibiotics, SubQ, and forced feeding.

The only history on this ferret I have is that he wasn't wanted and
had thin, wirey hair. We took him with us to a shelter in Seattle
when we bought another and they said he had been malnutrioned at some
point. (Could tell by the toenails?) He has been well taken care
of, good food, clean bedding, warm house, etc for over a year with
us. His age is unknown, but is about 3 yrs old, according to the
previous owners. His tail was bald and the vet said he was adrenal.
He had previous bladder problems where the bladder was plugged and he
had to be catherized. After 2 days with the vet, he came home, sore,
but fine.

Any suggestions? I asked the vet to bring him by, (vet is a mobile
vet in a motorcoach)so we could see him. His comment was, I don't
know how you think that will help! Good grief....all heart. Anyway,
I want to see him for myself. The vet is also going to see a couple
of my guinea pigs while he is here, so we can sort of assess the
ferret ourselves too. I don't know if he is in shock or what? Any
thoughts?

Thanks,
Cyndy

PS if you send an email, could you also send to me personal email
address? I pick this up off the web and it would be faster. The vet
will be here in 1 hour. cyndynelson@h...
