My vet routinely gives a shot of Torbugesic (butorphanol) just before the
ferret is brought up from the anesthesia, so they have pain meds on board
when they are waking up. She usually follows with another shot a few
hours later and then as needed depending on how they look. I usually keep
them on a schedule of Torb shots at least through the first night. We've
also occasionally used Banamine after they don't need a strong opioid like
Torb any longer but still need something for pain. The fuzzies just seem
to be able to rest much more comfortably and they are more relaxed with
nice steady deep breathing. Of course they are very closely watched...
