Subject: mysterious lump

Hey all,
I don't know if this is something I need to worry about or if it's
nothing. Can you let me know what you guys think?
Tonight I picked 2 1/2 year old Dart up and my hand brushed along his
side and I felt something hard. I did his nails and ears last night
and know there was nothing there last night.

I investigated further and when I hold him up in front of me with his
belly facing me, on his left side, down below his spleen, above his
leg, and towards his butt a little, is a perfectly round, larger than
a marble, smaller than a golf ball, hard as a rock, lump. It doesn't
feel attached to anything. It doesn't seem to bother him when I mess
with it, but he does seem to be favoring his other leg slightly.
The area is completely covered in fur and doesn't appear to be a bite
or injury. It is not seen by the eye - only felt when I run my hand
along his side.

He is eating great, very active, and looks fine otherwise.

Is there a lymph node in this area? I will be taking him into my
vet's tomorrow morning about it but for now, would just like to know
if this sounds like something serious (like lymphoma) or could be
nothing.

Something to be noted is that he received a rabies vaccination last
Monday evening (like 10 days ago). I can't remember where she gave
it to him at, but it could have been in this area. Is it possible
for a local reaction to appear ten days after the vaccination? Can
this occur?

Thanks for any advice to hopefully put my worries to rest for the
evening.
