A little clarification on the reason I seem to dislike the use of
Ensure for ferrets:
In trying to "do all we can" for our ferrets, we sometimes go
overboard with exotic, expensive, "recommended by experts" things &
recipies. Sometimes, in that process, we actually do more harm than
good.
Consider, for an example, a ferret newbie that comes to the list and
says "Oh! Ensure is a good soup additive!" The newbie, mixes it up,
gives her fuzzy a generous bowl and the ferret loves it, so the
newbie makes it a daily treat.... but her ferret has undiagnosed
insulinoma.
So the real bottom line is: Give your ferret what it needs for its
current physical/medical condition. Be aware of the contents and the
benefits (or lack of benefit)of those contents. Don't recommend a
soup recipe to someone without determining the need of the ferret
that will eat it.
