You know, I hear this all the time. We have 10 ferrets and we've never had the problem, and I honestly don't know why. The two rescues we took in back in September are seven years old (maybe older) and get along great with our young ones. If anything, they've become more active and playful since they joined us. Tenchi, our dominant alpha male, who is almost four, was tough on them for a few days. Last night I saw Tenchi and Podo with their arms around each other cuddled together sleeping. Podo was afraid of Tenchi at first. Now he pounces on Tenchi to start a wrestling match. Not too bad for a geriatric ferret, is it?

The only things we did during the introduction period for Podo and Kodo was swap bedding around, supervise play closely, and let them sleep in a cage identical to our main cage right next to the other ferts. It took maybe 10 days before we had them all integrated together. Actually, Podo and Kodo decided to integrate themselves. They'd waltz right on into the main cage to sleep with the other ferts in the extra large hammock.

Our ferrets range in age from three to seven.

Good luck!
Caity and the terrific 10
