Subject: suggestions?
My ferret has had an adrenal surgery. Right removed. He crashed
shortly afterwards and has had problems for a week now. I have
written Dr. Williams several times, but don't want to bother him
again. I am going to be giving sub Q fluids and syringe feeding
him. He has edema, swelling of his feet and legs. He also has red
sores/spots on his legs and feet.
My question is this, he drinks out of a syringe and quite a bit at
that. So does he really need subQ liquids also? Dr. Williams I
didn't want to write you and bother you again if you read this. You
have been so kind to answer all my emails.
Dr. Williams told me he gives 30cc of subQ fluids and told me how he
administers them. It is different than what my vet showed me. My vet
said put 20 cc's in 2x and each one at one spot on the neck. I will
do as Dr. Williams said with 5 to 6 cc's at a time and then move the
needle. But again is that totally necessary if he drinks a lot of
water by syringe? I forgot to ask that in my last email to Dr. W.
So what do the rest of you think, so I don't have to be a pest? The
prognosis doesn't look good, but I am not ready to give up. The
ferret is happier being home. He let us hold him up to go to the
bathroom in his potty box. But right now he cannot walk. So we sort
of help him. I call it ferret therapy. He is getting more attention
than he probably even wants, but it should make him happy.
Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Could you also email a
copy of this to cyndynelson@y...? I am in the process of
converting over the @home mess that some of us are in!
Thanks,
Cyndy Nelson
